Assessment 3

Frozen  original

Frozen action

Analysing genre-changing trailer

The film's title in the original is a comedy because of the colour and the font it gives the film a more fantasy and comedy. It comes in at the end. The genre-changing trailer uses the same font but it also represents action because of the sharp edges. the title comes in at the end at 0.59-1.01. The original film is more fantasy and comedy whereas the genre-changing trailer is turned in to action. The original it has more of the funny scenes. However, the genre-changing trailer uses more of the scenes that have the action in it because action film trailers show the scenes that have the action in it. The storyline is similar but in the genre-changing trailer, it shows that  Elsa is the villain whereas the in the original Elsa is the queen with powers. The original uses more establishing shot to show the location. Low angle is to give the viewer a comedy shot an example of this is when the snowdrops on Anna's head. Long shots are used to show the characters actions and expression. In the genre-changing trailer they use low angles to make the characters look taller. They used high angles to show Elsa's powers spreading. They use establishing shot to show the locations. In the original, the camera movements are tilted to show establishing shot. The original use the pan to show the movements of the characters. Whereas the genre-changing trailer has uses tilts to show  Elsa's powers spreading. They use pans to show the characters actions. In both the original and the genre-changing trailer Elsa's powers are special effects created by the computer-generated graphics. The snowman and the snow are also computer-generated graphics. The reindeer is also created by the computer-generated graphics. In the original trailer, they use snow in the frame to show that it is cold. The Ice is used to represent Elsa's powers to freeze everything around her. The costumes and the makeup is used to show that its cold to the characters. The lighting is to represent the weather that is around the colours. The colour blue is used to show the weather. The genre-changing trailer uses the handcuffs to protect the world from Elsa's powers. They used the ice to show that Elsa's powers can freeze things and people and shows that she is a danger to the people. The original trailer edit uses transitions is fast-paced. The titles zoom in and out at a fast-paced. Whereas the genre-changing trailer is fast-paced transitions. The original trailer uses dialogue, voice-over, SFX and the music tempo increases this is to intrigue the audience and to make them want to watch the movie however the genre-changing trailer uses SFX, dialogue, voice-over and music the tempo of the music fast-paced this is to make the audience want to watch the film.

Daily Diary

06/11/19

In today lesson we have started assessment 3 for the genre-changing trailer. We had to pick up two trailers, so I pick Frozen and pick frozen as an action film because I thought that this will be interesting to do. I found it interesting is because I wanted to see the different genres of the film. As it shows different elements of the trailer. Next week I want to finish my work.

Title

The title of the film appears near the end of the film trailer at 2.01. The title is bold with a red outline and a yellow fill. The red is to show danger but the yellow is to represent the Oscars' face and it also goes with red and the background. They left the title to the end to make the audience intrigued and to watch the movie. This also represents the audience remembering the title of the film.

Credited

Dreamworks animation is credited at the beginning of the trailer because they were the compony who produced the film. the main characters like Will Smith, Angelina Jolie and Renee Zellweger were credited in the trailer.

Stars

Will smith- Bad boys, Gemini, Aladdin

Angelina Jolie- Maleficent 1, Maleficent mistress of evil, 2 Lara Croft: tomb raider

Renee Zellweger- Bridget Jones, What/ If, Judy.

Robert De Niro- Joker, Taxi Driver, Goodfellas.

Genre

The film is an adventure and comedy. I can tell that the film is a comedy because of the jokes that have been told. I can tell that the film adventure because of that Oscar tried to run away.

Shot types and angles

The film uses:

Medium shot this is to show the characters locations, their facial expression and the body language of the character.

Over the shoulder this shows that the character perspective of the other character  and their body language and their  facial expressions the have

Close up they this to show the character emotion they have from their facial expression.

Long shots show the characters actions of what they are doing in the film.

High angle shots are showing what the character is doing from a high angled music video but it can make the character seem small.

Camera movements

The film uses these different camera movements to direct the audience to whats happening. Tracking is used to show the characters action for example Oscar sliding through the soap at the car wash.

Hand held is used  to show the perspective of the character and to provide eye witness for example near the end when they are arguing about who said when.

At the beginning they used a tilt to show the location .

They use paning to show how the character is responding to the action.

Timing

The trailer of this film is theatrical because it lasts for 2.18 near the end it appears with the title and the main characters actors name. This is to intrigue the audience. If they know the actors this is most likely make them see the films.

Special effects

The whole film is animated. All the characters are computer generated except for their voices. The characters stunts are  computer generated they put the characters in front of a green screen and have them do the actions and have the actions put with the animated characters.

Mise en scene

The setting is under the sea but there is a car wash and a restaurant. The setting makes the film look more like they are actual people but they are not. It feels like we are there with them. There are plates, knife and fork, and glasses at the beginning it looks like that they are preparing to have dinner this makes the film feel more like it is a normal day for them.

The anchor makes the film look like they want to kill the shark it makes the film feel scary because the anchor symbolises death. The phone makes the film look like that he is talking to someone it makes it feel like we are on the other end of the phone. All the different props make the film look like a normal person’s environment but it feels like that they are a in a different place but the film makes the and that they are humans.

They didn’t have any costumes but it had the female camera had no make-up on the characters. The body language of some of the characters  is light hearted and calm  but the sharks are more serious due to the death of a shark this is to show that it is a comedy film.Their facial expression is light hearted but some facial expressions are serious.  The lighting is bright in some  but dull in other scene like the firast scene in the restaurant.

Editing

The editing of the trailer is fast paced. Towards the end of the trailer with the  actors names come up they used fade to black to make the audience intrigued and they did this so if the audience see an actor they like in the film they would go see the film. Fade to black is used when the anchor lands on the shark and the jelly fish asked if Oscar killed the shark.

Sound

The trailer uses voice over, SFX, dialogue and music. The music tempo is fast paced. The used sound effects to create a dramatic effect like when Oscar is pushing the shark through the board. They use voice over because the characters is animated. They use SFX to create dramatic effect for example when the anchor drops on the shark. They used dialogue to show that they having a real conversation.

Genre changing trailer  confirmation

I want to change the movie shark tale from comedy and adventure into an action film. I choose action for my genre changing trailer because it is fast paced activity and conflict in the film.

Action films

Action movies and TV are defined by their lead characters and villains. They are very clear-cut, with no grey area between right and wrong. The stakes can be huge the fate of the world or even just the fate of a building. The history of action movies has changed throughout the years. As CGI and special effects became more improved we were able to make the stunts safer. The action movies have always been defined by the performers willingly to risk their lives to film something cool.  An action films and series usually push the heroes into challenges that typically include fighting, gun or swordplay and  chasing  scenes. They always stack the odds against the heroes and make sure that their lives are threatened at every turn. The hero usually wins and the villain usually defeated.

What makes a good action films

A strong hero in action movies lives and die. While there are some examples of ensemble casts or buddy-cop duos at their hearts, every action movie needs a singular, strong, courageous hero.

While the action movie hero can certainly have character flaws a filthy chain-smoking habit the likeability of the hero is often what ultimately decides the success of the film.

The revenge plot of an action movie’s plot is going to be solely fuelled by some sort of revenge or vengeance that will power the narrative from start to finish.

The training montage is not an absolute requirement in every action movie. There are many action movie heroes who are simply all-powerful who don’t need to level up for their final showdowns. Chases and fight scenes are the main action film includes several action scenes and sequences. You can usually break these down into chase scenes and fight scenes. Chase scenes can be shot in a variety of settings, on different vehicles, or on foot. Fight scenes are extremely complex and coordinated. They can also be very tricky to film. So, in all instances, safety is your number one priority. In fact, many stunt professionals have made the jump from performers and coordinators to directors. The final showdown, at the end of every action movie, you need a final showdown between your villain and your hero. In many tournament-style martial arts movies — like Bloodsport or The Karate Kid these showdowns will line up pretty naturally. However, in other plots, you’ll have to find ways for your hero and villain to find themselves facing off each other.

These final acts are usually some of the biggest, most complex spectacles in action movies often shot on some of the most elaborate sets.

Genre Changing  Trailer ideas

Synopsis

Oscar is a normal fish living a normal life. He owes money to his boss who owes money to A mafia leader. He owes money but he bets it on a race and he lost the money. His boss gets two guys to kill him but they don't. The mafia leader wants both of his son to take over the family business but Frankie one of his sons has already made him proud but his other son Lenny has met his expectations. So he sends Frankie and  Lenny out so that Lenny can learn the ropes of being a shark. Frankie sees Oscar and the two guys send Lenny to kill oscar but Lenny gives Oscar a chance to save himself after that Frankie gets feds up with Lenny so he steps in and tries to kill Oscar himself while trying to kill Oscar and anchor comes out of nowhere too and hits Frankie on the head and he dies. Oscar tells the lie of being a Sharkslayer. So everyone in the reef feels safer because of the lie. The shark tracks oscar down and the mafia leader said that if anyone finds him they can kill and eat him. so what will happen next? what will the sharks do to Oscar? What will Oscar do to escape this situation?

I will deliver this storyline by using the scenes that use the most active and that is fast-paced. This will reflect the genre action by using my scenes sharks will chase oscar.

Hits

Power down

Slap

Slam

Metal breaking

Bubbles

Wooshing

Some of these will be used when the sharks are chasing Oscar and when the anchor hits Frankie's head.

Music and SFX

I will be using music in the trailer. I will use something upbeat and fast-paced as I am doing an action film. Fast-paced and upbeat music is the most general to hear in the film. I will use music as background music throughout the trailer. I will be using SFX in the trailer I will play around with the colour and I will play with different effects. I will use the different e

Text

For the text, I will make use a font that is bold and stands out. The colours that I will use is something different. I will do this because I want it to be different from the original trailer's text. My text will say the title of the trailer which is shark slayer and the release dates and out in the cinema now. My text will be designed differently from the originals text so it might be more bubbly because of that the film is under water.

Production logo

The production logo that I will use is Dreamworks animation production logo as they were the company that produced Shark tale.

Rating

The rating that I have decided on my trailer is U because anyone can see it and that it is suitable for kids to watch

How to create foley sounds

Slamming of  a door

I don't need to bring anything in all I need is to slam a door as hard as I  can.

Slap

Again I don't need to bring anything I can just hit my hand to make it sound like a real slap

Whoosh

All I need to bring in is  a skipping rope or I can use my mouth to create the sounds

To create this foley I hit my hand as hard as possible to create it how I wanted to create it. I think for this one I think that it went well.

Whooshing 2
00:00 / 00:07

I created this sound by using my mouth by blowing. I think that with this sound I was too harsh so I created another one which was much softer

Production Diary

As I missed the work on Friday I am catching up with the work.

I started to put my footage in order. I changed some of the scenes or I cut them down because it caused the trailer to be too long. I used the crossfade tools to blend the music that I have chosen to the best of my abilities.

Wipes

In my trailer decided to do wipes to introduce the different scene this is because the scene is in a different location. It tells the audience that we have moved forward in time.

Dip to black

I used the transition dip to black to bring in the first scene. I also used it to introduce some of the different locations because the locations change

Split transition

I used this because to show that they are still on the island but they are in a different area.

Cube

I used the cube flip transition to show that even though it was the night it got darker than it was before.

Dissolve

I used dissolve to show Alex's hallucinations and that he is going crazy.

Gradient wipe

I used gradient wipe near the end of my trailer for the titles.
