Assesment 2
Teaser trailers
Movie trailers get their own trailers. They are to tease the audience about the film. Usually try to tease the audience without revealing much detail about the movie. They have fast cuts to create a 30-90 second snippet, mainly representing the movie's overall mood. Most of the time these teasers are made before the shooting is complete and may even be distributed as early as a year before the release date of the featured movie. They last for 30-90 second and released prior to the film can be a year.
Theatrical/ standard/offical trailer
The main difference standard trailers have to teasers is their length. They typically double or triple in time. They would normally have 2-3 minutes to introduce characters or better explain the main narrative of the plot. Similar to teasers they also often use voice-overs and edited scenes of the movie cut together in a fast-paced montage. There are also several versions of the standard trailers as often they have alternative cuts for domestic and international use. One showing the main characters in their natural environment, then the event that spins them out of that habitat and finally the third act with the most visual and emotional tension. These scenes are typically cut to music and SFX which increase in tempo and build momentum. The cuts and transitions employed create a video montage of pivotal shots and actor dialogue ending with the key information of film title and release date. They last for 2-3 minutes and released 5-6 months before the film release.
Creative trailer
This kind of trailer does not use any footage from the movie itself, instead they are produced independently to promote the movie. Directors shot their own smaller plots that somehow connected into the movie for advertising purposes. It goes without saying, that shooting or creating new footage is a lot more expensive, than using the material available from the feature film, thus these kinds of trailers are not commonly used due to their high cost.
Featurettes
These are usually 5-10 minute long. They are consisting of two main subcategories, the "Making of" and the "Behind-the scenes". The main difference between the two is that while the former focuses more on the events before shooting while the audience get an insight of the on-set work. Both types usually show scenes being shot in-between cast and crew interviews about the experience of making the movie, the special effects used and the issues they have overcome during the shooting. While it could be argued that these feel more like short documentaries than trailers, their main purpose is still to create interest and promote the featured movie.
Clip trailers
They are made by grabbing an interesting short scene out of the movie and using it to promote without editing or retouching it. The hardest part of these kinds of trailers is that for positive results they need to be segments that stand on their own, as they are taken in by the viewers with limited context. These types of clips can be most commonly found used within talk shows where the guest stars usually appear on the condition that they also get to promote their latest movie.
TV spots
TV spots are already venture on the line to the next chapter which is distribution of trailers. While these ads are stylistically similar to the standard trailers. They often appear as just a shortened version of the film. The length is between 30-60 seconds is the same as the teaser trailers, and are more commonly timed to appear closer to or after the movie's release as part of the final push of the marketing campaign that leads the audience to the movie theatres. The importance of a TV spot is that it brings the movie trailers into the homes of the viewers, extending the movie industry's marketing to other mediums.
Trailer analysis 1 -Black panther
Hand out
The film trailers title appeared at the end of the trailer at 2.11 seconds The font that they used was a font that was black and bold. The marvel studios were credited because they were the studio that created the film. The genre of black panther was action because of the different things that happen in the movie. I can tell this by the different scenes that they have of fighting. The shot types they used in the trailer is a lot of establishing shot to show the different locations like when they enter Wakanda or a different city. The over the shoulder shot shows the conversation between two people and shows the emotion on the other persons face it also show one actors perspective of the other character. The point of view shot type gives the audience a different perspective of the other character. They used medium and long shot to show the audience the characters actions and the action that is happening in the film. They use the high angle shots to make the audience think that the actor is on a low ledge or to make the actor seem short. They used low angles to make the audience think that the audience is on high edge or to make them think that they are tall. They used close-ups to show the actors face expression. They used tilts to make it feel like we are in the spaceship moving left to right. They used panning to show more of the locations and the actor's action. Tracking is used to move along when the actor is running or walking. They also used handheld movement s to show that they have original camera movements. The trailer is a theatrical trailer it lasts 2.18 long. The effect of the waterfall is created by having a bucket full of water and pour it into something to create it. The spaceship noise is an effect they use when it is flying through the air. The effects they use with the swords is when they are fighting when they slash together. The effect they use with the car is when the car is flipping over. The black panther costume has lighting effects. They used special effects to create the explosions look and sound. They used Guns on how they look and sound. The movie uses mise en scene the waterfall gives the movie more of an African look but it also makes the movie feel like I am in Africa. Whereas all the shops and busy streets give the film more of a normal life look and it felt like I was there as well. The spaceship gives the movie look like it is space but it is not. It makes the movie feel like we are there because they have technology that everyone else doesn't have. They use dark and bright lighting and colours to show the different settings. They use fast pace transitions to increase tensions this impacts the movie by making it more intriguing. They use the transition fade to black to go to the titles to show the different locations in the film this give impacts the film by making the audience interested by thinking what happens next. I watched the trailer without sound I think that sound would add a more dramatic effect to the trailer. I think I can establish the movie genre by the type of music it includes. The trailer would probably have rise ups, power-downs and hits. The tempo would increase to give it a more fast pace. In action films, it includes all this. I watched the trailer with the sound it includes voice-over, dialogue, music SFX all of this impacts the movie more they add effects and creates tension to the film.

Trailers analysis 2 Girls trip
The title of the film comes at the near the end of the trailer. It comes exactly at 1.58. The title is bold with high light. The letters are white and the highlight is bright pink. Universal Pictures and The producer of ride along. Regina Hall is the best mans holiday. Tiffany Haddish is in nobody's fool. Queen Latifah is in barbershop 2 and Jada Pinkett is in bad moms. The genre of this film is comedy I can tell this because of that they have really funny scenes and tells jokes. The movie has long shots to show the characters actions and the character's location. They use a lot of medium shots to show the characters body language and characters expression. They use establishing shot to show the character's location. They had close-ups to show the characters facial expression. They had some shots of over the shoulders where they show two people having a conversation, the character's perspective of the other characters. The camera movement was panning this was used when the character moved so the camera follows the character. They also used tracking to show the character moving around like running or walking. The trailer is the theatrical trailer. The movie uses special effects such as when they have hallucinations because of certain alcohol that is put into their drinks. The movies use mise en scene such as the locations they use different locations from the film such as hotel room this made the movie look like it was a comedy and it made me feel like I was right there with them. Streets made the film look busy and made it feel like a normal day. The airport made the film look like the like a normal life of friends on holiday it made the film feels like a normal life. The club location makes the film look like that it was a comedy because the club makes the movie feel like that something is going to happen. The costumes were brightly coloured in some scenes and dark coloured. In some scenes the makeup is the same as the costumes due to that it is dark in some scenes and brightly coloured in some scenes. The characters body and facial expressions are not serious because the genre of the film is a comedy. The lighting is set to the different locations like in the club its dark but in the hotel during the day it is bright. The editing of this film is fast pace it increases tensions. The transitions dip to black this makes the audience wait to find out the information and what happens next. I watched the trailer without sound I think I can establish the genre by the dramatic pause, how the characters act and if the trailer is a fast pace. I watched the trailer again but with the sound, it includes dialogue, voice-overs, the music, SFX and how the trailers tempo has increased. As the audience, these different elements make us more intrigue in the film it makes us as the audience go to the cinema and watch the film. The different element make the audience feel like they are actually part of the scenes.

In today's lesson discussed what makes a trailer. The skill that I have learned is that there is the same pre-production paperwork that goes into the trailer. Sarah put the class in groups and choose a genre and makes the group do a presentation. We had to talk about al the techniques, codes and conventions that went into the trailer. The skill that I have learned from doing this activity is that in different genres they are different codes and conventions sometimes there is a crossover. I found talking about which code and convention cross over challenging because of that genres crossover to another genre.

In today's lesson, When had given a handout. The hangout was to help us with the homework, our homework was to make a trailer analysis of two different genres. The first film that I have picked out was Black Panther. I have picked this film because first, I know a lot about it. I have put a lot of detail in the analysis. The second trailer that I have chosen is girls trips. I have chosen this film because I thought that it was completely different from my first choices. The skill that I haved developed on is that I am able to put new information that I could be adding to my own trailer and maybe improving it more. With the next analysis I hope to write my second analysis with the same detail I did in the first analysis.
