Introduction

What is photojournalism

Photojournalism is when you are telling a story through the images that has been taken. To show what is going on and how people feel. This is so that they do not have to use words. The photographers capture the important events and helps people realise different things.

Photojournalism is when the images can tell a story. The photographers can capture important events that are happening in the world. This helps people to focus on the subject. Doing photojournalism, you must be able to communicate through the image has to show the meaning. With the different images that has been created whether they were simple or complex they would have an affect on the viewer. The photographer captures their perspective, but they also capture what the human eye does not. They must step out of their comfort zone and capture the different moments. The images add to what journalists say about a certain subject. The images help to show the reality of certain subjects. Photojournalism needs to have their freedom. The diversity is growing and different. The editor of the images may use different editing techniques to make the important part of the image stand out to the viewers so that they are focused on the important part. With photojournalism they must assess the situation and use different resources that they must make an effective and impactful photo for the viewers to stop, look and think about the meaning of the image. These images can change the world view on certain subjects.

How coronavirus has been presented in photographs

Image research- Ideas and inspirations

Tips:

  1. Premeditate in a positive way. This will help me because I will need to be thoughtful of what I am going to do, what I am going to create and how I am going to do it. It will also help me to be mindful of what I am looking for.

  2. Walk, and walk some more . This tip will help me because it would take pressure off me. in Also it will help me because I might have found something but continuing walking I might have find something that is better than what I have in mind. Walking will help me to observe different things.

  3. Eliminate the noise. This will help me to focus on what I am doing and where I am during the process of what I am doing. It will also help me because It means putting phone on silent and focusing on what you are doing. Putting your phone on silent it will help clear my mind.

  4. Step out of your comfort zone. This will help to take risk but also being safe because I will be out of my comfort zone and being uncomfortable so that I can focus my self again if I have been distracted.

  5. Stick with it. This will help me because I might capture something but then after  I have captured the image I may have missed the bigger picture.  This will also help me because I might want to give up because it too hard or something else.

Mobile photography work shop & skills log

In this shot I improved on  the brightness because of a tree creating a bit of  darkness in the shot. The effect it had was  the brightness making the flowers stand out.

In this shot it has been improved my moving the object in the right lighting. The effect that it has was that it stands out and the brightess of the image.

In this sot I improved it by moving closer to the object. The effect it has is that it is bold and standing out because of the brightness of the lighting . On my camera I had to adjust the lighting a bit

In this shot I improved the focus. The effect is how the focus is and how it stands out in the image

Doing these photos I have learnt how to adjust the brightness. I also learnt about the exposure and not to zoom in. I learnt that I need to use grid lines. I learnt the rule of three and negative space.

Final piece

I chose this image because it tells me about being on lockdown and not being able to go anywhere. The techniques that I used was the grid lines techniques from the workshop. I didn't edit the photo because I wanted it to be in the moment and a natural photo. Yes it is a photojournalistic because it tells a story. The story it tells was about lockdown and that we cant go anywhere. In total I took 5 photos. I found it both challaging and easy because thinking  about  what photos to take was hard.

Final piece audio
00:00 / 04:11

I got some feedback about my image. The feedback that I got was that I could have used a black and white filter. They also said about using different angles and that I should have gotten out of the car or gone across the road so that I could have gotten a better picture. I have taken this feedback into consideration so that the next time I do this project so that I can improve the image. I also got told that my audio was detailed enough for them to understand my point. Another improvement for my final piece is that  I should have chosen the image of the pub instead. I have gained knowledge of how to do photojournalism.

Originally I was going to do something different but then I went out and saw things that represents the coronavirus. To be honest I didn't ask any permission to use the image. I didn't ask for any assistance. I haven't positioned anything. I wanted focus  on the train stations building. I took it at an angle to give it more effect. I adjusted the exposure because it was too bright before I took the image. With the framing  I made sure that I had the major part of the building within the frame. The colours is the same from the building. There is no background. You see the outside of the train  stations but you don't see the inside or the platforms. I think that with this image the exposure is the strength of the image. If I  had  to do this again I would do a different topic. I have learnt about photojournalism and what it is.
